We have experience with rebuilding after the 2018 Woolsey fire, and we can help you understand the steps in evaluating your property and existing foundation, and how to get through the city permit processes so that you can start rebuilding your property and your lives as soon as possible.
Here are some items that can be done to get ahead of the rebuild process:
- Check city records for existing drawings and permits. Find photos of your home that you may have on your computer.
- Field verify the existing layout before anything is demolished or removed. Take measurements of the existing foundation and look for structural and plumbing clues that might help with kitchen and bathroom locations. View Google maps for roof layout and overall site information. Take pictures of the site.
- Hire a designer or architect to create new drawings that can be submitted to the city for permits. They will know what will fast track your city approval - for example, you may only be able to add 10% in square footage to your original home. A basic set of drawings include a site plan, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, electrical plan and details. An engineer will have to provide structural plans, details, calculations as well as a Title 24 energy calculation.
- Hire a licensed contractor to review the drawings and provide a detailed cost estimate and schedule.
